Day 1

Upon your arrival in Johannesburg, you’ll be greeted by the city’s vibrant energy and dynamic atmosphere. The rest of the day is yours to explore at your own pace. Take the opportunity to relax in your comfortable accommodations or venture out to discover some of Johannesburg’s highlights, such as local cafes, shops, or parks. Enjoy the flexibility of having the day to yourself before settling in for a restful night’s sleep at your hotel, preparing for the exciting adventures that lie ahead.

Day 2

In the morning, depart from Rovos Rail’s private station in Pretoria. At lunch, savor a gourmet meal on board as the train embarks on its journey. In the afternoon, unwind in the comfort of your suite or explore the train’s elegant lounges and observation car. As evening falls, indulge in a sumptuous dinner served in the dining car while enjoying the scenic South African landscape unfolding before you.

Day 3

Experience a visit to the renowned Big Hole (Kimberley Mine), one of the world’s largest hand-dug excavation sites. Discover the history of diamond mining in the region and marvel at the mine’s impressive scale. Enjoy a guided tour led by a knowledgeable expert who will provide fascinating insights into the diamond rush that shaped the area. Delectable breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served on board.

Day 4

Breakfast is served in the elegant dining cars as the train makes its way through the vast semi-desert of the Karoo. After lunch, guests have the opportunity to disembark at Whitehill Siding for a 5km walk into the historic village of Matjiesfontein. Here, you can explore the platform museum and a fascinating collection of vintage cars and railway carriages near the Lord Milner Hotel. After departing Matjiesfontein, the train approaches the first of four tunnels on the pass, including a 13.5km-long tunnel. As the train descends roughly 750 meters down the escarpment toward Worcester, dinner is served.

Day 5

The train passes through the scenic Hex River Valley on its way to Cape Town. After arriving at Cape Town Station, you have the afternoon free to explore at your own leisure. Immerse yourself in the city’s lively culture, unwind at a local café, or take a leisurely walk along the picturesque waterfront. Whether you decide to visit nearby landmarks, relax, or take in the breathtaking views, the afternoon offers you the perfect opportunity to experience Cape Town’s unique charm.

Day 6

Experience the vibrant culture and stunning landmarks of Cape Town on a comprehensive city tour. Begin with a visit to iconic sites such as Table Mountain, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city and surrounding coastline. Explore the historic V&A Waterfront, known for its bustling markets, trendy shops, and waterfront eateries. Discover the rich history of the city at landmarks like the District Six Museum and the historic Company’s Garden. Stroll through colorful neighborhoods such as Bo-Kaap, famous for its brightly painted houses and cultural heritage. The tour offers a blend of Cape Town’s modern attractions and its deep historical roots, giving you a well-rounded glimpse into this dynamic city.

Day 7

The journey continues with an aromatic wine experience at a second estate, followed by a specially curated three-course lunch at the estate restaurant. After breakfast, depart from the charming town of Franschhoek and journey to Cape Town. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to either catch your flight home or continue your travels to your next exciting destination.
